We Need Your Help!!!
Posted On: August 7, 2010, 9:54 pm

Continuing in our efforts to assist those effected by Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Ike and Gustav.  Get In The Car is looking for your assisstance.

Below is a list of how you, your friends and family and/or your congregation can help.

Meal Sponsorships:

$10.00 feeds one volunteer for one day

$50.00 feeds 16 team members dinner one evening

$70.00 feeds one volunteer for one week

$160.00 feeds 16 team members three meals for one day

$800.00 feeds 16 team members for one full week

Water Shed:

The #1 injury among volunteer workers is dehydration due to heat and humidity. The NSDR recommends teams are equipped with at least 6 bottles of water per person per day. For a team of 16, that’s 96 bottles or 4 cases per day.

At about $3.75 per case, sponsorship would be $15.00 per day or $105.00 per week. It is our intent to buy the water there to help stimulate the local economy.

Gasoline:

We drive approximately 2,400 miles round-trip using two vehicles and one truck towing a fully stocked tool trailer. With an estimated use of 140 gallons x 3 vehicles @ 2.80 per gallon, fuel cost is about $1,200. It is a large number—until you break it down. You can donate $3.00 per gallon; ask family, friends, co-workers for $1.00 donations; collect change for a month; etc. We appreciate anything!

Tool Trailer Wish List:

Our trailers are pretty well stocked at the moment, however, our job assignments may require additional, specific tools. We accept used tools in good condition as well as new tools. Gift cards for Lowe’s or Home Depot are welcome too  Contact Eric for more a more detailed list of specific tools necessary.

Looking at this list, you can see, a little it goes a long way.

Please pray about how you can help and then get in touch.

Tax receipts are available for all donations-please provide your name or business and address plus zip code. For a donation by check, please make it payable to: New Hope UMC and indicate ‘GITC’ in the memo line.

Thank-you and GOD BLESS!

Archival Devotion.
Posted On: May 20, 2010, 10:14 pm
Over the past three years, Get In The Car as been witness to hundreds of devotions, moments that words just somehow seem to be unable to describe. Directions in life altered, relationships restored, faith explosions and quiet moments where the slightest movement is felt in slow motion.

Here is one of those moments relived:

Let me live a life that’s free

From the things that draw me close to thee

For how can I ever hope to heal

The wounds of others I do not feel

If my eyes are dry and never weep,

How do I know when the hurt is deep

If my heart is cold and it never bleeds

How can I tell what my brother needs

For when ears are deaf to the beggar’s plea

And we close our eyes and refuse to see

And we steel our hearts and harden our minds

And we count it as weakness whenever we’re kind

We are no longer following the Father’s way

Or seeking guidance from day to day

For without “crosses to carry” and “burdens to bear”

We dance through a life that is frothy and fair

And “chasing the rainbows” we have no desire

For “roads that are rough” and “realms that are higher”

So spare me no heartache or sorrow Dear Lord

For the heart that is hurt reaps the richest rewards

And God enters the heart that is broken with sorrow

As He opens the door to a brighter tomorrow

For only through tears can we recognize

The suffering that lies in another’s eyes

Get In The Car - A Missionary Prayer
Posted On: October 15, 2009, 12:51 am

At Get In The Car Ministries, we have always believed that the teams that travel consist of more than just the people who actually “get in the car.”

There are tens if not hundreds of people in the background that are part of the team.  These are the husbands and wives that stay behind and “keep the home fires burning.”  The children that miss their Mom or Dad while they are away, the congregations that have raised funds and lifted each member of the team in prayer before and during the trip, you that are reading this right now.

Thank-you all for what you do because without all of you, none of this would be possible.

A prayer from the archives (modified) from a prayer team member.

Dear Heavenly Father, please hold our mission workers in your loving hands.  Protect them as they work to make a difference in the lives of those in Slidell, LA.  Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for those in need.  We ask these blessings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Amen
